Esme Pearson

Transfer Operator

Q&A with Esme

What do you do at Liquid Violet/what does your job title mean?

I'm a transfer operator, so I prepare sessions for the engineers and send deliveries to clients.

What is the best part about your job?

The coffee and the snacks. Although this could also be the worst part, since I have no self control with snacking.

What led you to this career?

I started playing piano when I was 6 and have always loved music and films. Over the years, I started to become interested in sound technology as well so I studied it at university. I was lucky enough to try out a few different areas of sound at uni, and I found that I really just loved sound for picture. I hadn't done anything to do with game audio before coming here, so it's been a great learning experience thus far.

What was your very first job?

My first proper job was waitress/ bartender/ barista in a restaurant. Before that, I dabbled in gardening.

Doctor Who offers to take you back in time – what historical figure do you most want to meet?

I don't think there's anyone that I'd specifically like to meet, but there are a few time periods I'd like to visit. La Belle Epoque, the roaring 20s, the 70s... times of immense creativity, interesting fashion and great parties. If I were to meet anyone famous, that would be a bonus.

Which team member would you like to swap places with for a day?

Maybe Jareth? I've never been to Canada and it would save me a lot on plane tickets.

What is a job that you would be terrible at?!

Teaching. I have such little patience and I wouldn't want the pressure of shaping young minds.

What other completely different job would you like to do if you weren’t doing this one?

I think being a food/ travel blogger or journalist would be so fun. Making enough money to live off from going on holiday is such a dream.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love cooking and baking, so I can often be found in the kitchen. Other than that, I play piano and watch way too much TV.

What fictional place would you like to visit?

Kalokairi; a place outside of time and logic, where Meryl Streep and Colin Firth spontaneously break out into ABBA. Need I say more?

What’s one thing that you’ve never done that you would like to do?

I think appearing on a game show would be really fun. I always wanted to go on Jungle Run and the Crystal Maze when I was a child because the challenges looked so fun. Now, I'd like to go on Traitors to see if I'm better than the contestants I make fun of or Tipping Point as the giant 2p machine intrigues me.

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?

Concert and theatre tickets to whatever I want.

If you could become an overnight expert in something, what would it be?

I'd like to be completely fluent in another language. I've been trying to learn French and Italian for years and whilst I can get by, I would like for the people of France to stop responding to me in English.

Any hidden talents?

I can wrap my legs round my neck, though I wouldn't consider this useful.

What’s one song that you have completely memorized?

Take on Me by A-ha, absolute banger.

What form would your daemon take?

I've always thought my daemon would be a cat. After taking the online quiz "What Form Would Your Daemon Take?", I can confirm that my daemon would take the form of a black cat- apparently due to my ability to multitask and be perceived as a symbol of misfortune.

What could you give a presentation on with no advance warning?

Kate Bush. If you need someone to ramble about her use of the Fairlight CMI or how self-producing set her apart from other artists of the time, I can deliver..
