Technical Director
The man behind the curtain, Mike's dulcet Yorkshire tones are the sound of freedom to anyone caught in a tech-related jam, from the technophobic to the accomplished sound engineer.
"Magic Mike" is more often found cooking up bespoke production tools however, that constantly excite the team and are some of Liquid Violet's most valuable USPs. Mike's a genuine family man who enjoys board games with the kids as much (if not more than) video games.
Q&A with Michael
What do you do at Liquid Violet/what does your job title mean?
Technical Director – It’s my role to ensure that everything is working as it should, along with developing custom toolsets and still dabbling in Loc Pre-Production too.
What’s the best part about your job?
Problem solving.
What led you to this career?
A long stint in QA whilst knocking on the door of the audio department at Babel, and before you know it we’d started our own company.
What is your biggest work-based accomplishment that you are really proud of?
Helping to grow the company from a three person team to where we are today.
Which team member would you like to swap places with for a day?
Any of the engineers, so that I could get behind the recording desk.
What’s one song that you have completely memorised?
I play a mean version of Needle and the Damage Done by Neil Young.
What could you give a presentation on with no advance warning?
Localised audio in Videogames.
What was your very first job?
Apart from stints doing paper rounds and working at the local fish and chip shop whilst at school it would be working at an electro plating factory.
What other completely different job would you like to do if you weren’t doing this one?
Luthier.
What is a job that you would be terrible at?
Anything in the military, too much of a hippie and couldn’t get up that early every day.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Spending time with the family, playing with the cats and playing the guitar.
If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
Strawberry Ribena.
Any hidden talents?
I know one really good card trick that works 50% of the time.
